Claudia read a book in the south-facing lounge room of her partner’s sharehouse.
The light in the room oscillated under pocked clouds, dulling and awakening her senses in spasmodic repetition.
The book was lent to her by a good friend who had pattered down the hall,
book in hand, moments after Claudia handed them a book she recently enjoyed.
The author of the received book had endorsed the departed novel on its back cover.

 
   
   

The words on the page again, slipped into shadowed imperceptibility.
